Baby, look at them now....................

It is amazing how time takes it's toll.  I look at the before and after photos and can tell those that used their pay packet as "beer coupons" instead of mortage payments.  They may try and tell you it was the hard yakka they put in while in boats, if you fall for that you will fall for anything.

To this day I still ponder on my time in boats. Such an amazing collection of humanity to work and live with, freaks, weirdos, nutjobs, pissheads, eccentrics and party animals and all utterly professional. I am proud to be associated and counted as one of these. Whenever I have periods of self doubt I always reflect on the fact that I was one of the less than 10% that completed training and got my Dolphins - The thought always seems to perk me up! Currently working in the DMO as a System Engineer in the MCDSPO.

Met some great people in the Squadron and the Fleet, and had some great postings ('cept Comms School. Weirdest memory - Cactus Klease dry retching after watching the Coxn lancing a boil on Wally Ware's back. Saddest memories - finding Steve Booth after taking his own life and the passing of Mickey Pearce with whom I shared much of my career; we had our first ever sea posting together - HMS Mohawk.

Served on Onslow 1971-73. The Navy, especially my time in submarines was the best thing I did in my youth, I became a gypsy and traveled the world as some of the submariners found out when they went to UK on Qantas to requalify. The crew in ONSLOW were the best shipmates anyone could wish to sail with.

This story shall the good man teach his son;
    And Crispin Crispian shall ne'er go by,
    From this day to the ending of the world,
    But we in it shall be remembered-
    We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
    For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
    Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
    This day shall gentle his condition;
    And gentlemen in England now-a-bed
    Shall think themselves accurs'd they were not,
    And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
    That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day.
