SMA is currently tendering for the COLLINS CLASS SM Training at HMAS STIRLING and is seeking expressions of interest from Ex-Submariners, current Submarine School staff and experienced Maritime Trainers for Management, Instructor (including both platform and combat systems maintenance and operation) and training support positions. 
Experience in COLLINS Class submarines is highly desirable.

Mahogany Oberon Models

Oscar Akins managed to obtain O Boat plans from the Museum at Fremantle and has just received images of the first completed model. He said "I reckon it looks great. This particular model is 2 foot long but 4 foot models can be made. Each one is hand crafted from Mahogany. No plastic or metal involved. Ignore the HMS Oberon name, any name ie HMAS Ovens can be supplied. the cost is $350 plus postage."

Memorabillia
Back in the mid 1980s John Lannstrom [as a civvy] visited all the Oberon submarines at HMAS Platypus on a very regular basis and provided the crews with gear such as their foulie patches, caps, Zippo lighters, plaques with the submarine profile on brushed metal, etc - all with each submarine crest on all the items.  He didn't have a contract - just dealt with the crew of each submarine.

He is now making up prints of each of the submarines and other ships, etc from the 80's.  To offset costs of printers, scanners, etc I sell a few prints on ebay as Limited Edition prints. He can also do prints of any of the six HMAS Oberon class submarines with a crew member's personal information on a print showing their service aboard.

If any SAA member wishes to buy any prints and mention the SAA, I will donate 50 cents to the Association's Welfare fund from each print sale.

The prints personalised are $5.50 each plus $2.50 safe packaging and postage.  Up to three prints can be safely shipped in the one packet for the $2.50.  The prints are unconditionally guaranteed quality-wise."

North Queensland at War Volume 1
Naval and Merchant Shipping Movements 1939 - 1942

This book of 336 pages is a compilation of ‘Shipping’ in North Queensland (Australia) waters from 1939 to 1942. it includes the arrival and departure dates of all vessels (large and small, military and merchant) that entered the ports of Mackay, Bowen, Townsville, Lucinda, Cairns, Port Douglas, Cooktown, Port Stewart, Portland Road and Thursday Island.

Researched and compiled by Peter Nielsen (ex WOETSM). Cost $69 plus $8 postage. This book has been nominated for the Queensland Premier’s Literary Awards (2004) - Best History Book.
